What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a tool to utilize to assist you in overcoming obstacles.  In an environment that is non-judgmental, compassionate and accepting, you can be free to be yourself and grow.  Psychotherapy offers the opportunity to develop self-awareness, self-acceptance and develop healthier ways of interacting in your world.

Counseling Services Offered at Botanica:
Individual Counseling
For the person who is in the midst of crisis, is facing significant life changes or who simply needs support through tough times.

Family Counseling
Family dynamics are powerful forces that shape our lives and interactions with others.  Family counseling can help provide guidance and understanding for families who are in crisis or who simply want healthier, stronger relationships.

Premarital Counseling
(suggested 5-7 sessions per couple)
With divorce rates averaging over 50%, it is the wise and prudent couple who prepares for marriage.  Utilizing the PREPARE inventory enables the therapist to accurately evaluate 9 significant areas in relationships including communication, parenting, finances and spirituality. Incompatibility in any of the areas on the inventory does not indicate couples should not get married, but rather provides strengths and areas needing growth.

Relationship/Marriage Counseling
Marriage counseling is an invaluable tool for the marriage in crisis or facing a pending crisis.  Marriage counseling will help strong couples be stronger and not-so-strong couples to become strengthened for the journey. Marriage can be hard work, but is incredibly rewarding when couples have the right tools.

Group Counseling
Can help participants develop higher self-esteem, increased openness and honesty, less defensiveness , more authenticity, increased self-appreciation and increased self-direction.

Women’s Issues
Includes counseling for sexual abuse survivors, infertility, trauma, parenting and blended family concerns as well as guidance for those who are merely seeking to know herself better, to increase self-worth and to achieve greatness in her role as a woman.

Personal Growth
Spiritual guidance, self-awareness and increased self esteem.  Becoming a whole, complete and confident person is something we all desire and personal growth counseling can assist you in awakening your passions, moving toward wholeness and achieving your fullest potential.

Children of Divorce
Children whose parents are divorced tend to have poorer academic performance, are more likely to drop out of school, score lower on performance tests, have lower academic aspirations and have lower levels of education and occupational status.  Parents who seek out early intervention for their children while divorcing tend to minimize these effects and provide the children with more effective coping skills and stability.

Parents of Chronically or Terminally Ill Children
For parents, nothing can be more distressing than receiving the news that ones’ child has a chronic, possibly life-threatening issue.  The initial impact of receiving such news can be devastating to parents, as the parents are suddenly faced with questions and uncertainty about the child’s medical condition and possible outcomes, along with the myriad of other stressors that come with chronic illness.  In fact, studies have indicated that as many as 50% of parents of a chronically il child develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or Major Depressive Disorder.  Don’t suffer alone…let us work with you to provide you with education, support and strength through the journey with your child.

Addictions Counseling
For people struggling with an addiction or for family members of someone struggling with an addiction. Addiction is a complex but treatable disease that affects brain function and behavior. Counseling helps to address the individual's drug or alcohol abuse and any associated medical, psychological, social, vocational, and legal problems. Family members can also benefit from counseling services by focusing on self-care as well as learning about the disease and how to best support a loved one dealing with addiction or in the process of recovery.

Lisa Basquez and Gina Watkins are Botanica's Licensed Counselors.
