Meet the Life Coach:
Erica began her career as a clinical nutritionist in 1987 and through her nutrition therapy practice soon recognized the need to understand her client’s physical and emotional experience more fully. She completed training as a fitness instructor and clinical social worker and began to work with adolescents, adults and families with a varied health and behavioral challenges. Erica has found that a working partnership is essential to helping clients find what’s working and not working their lives, so that they can bring about transformation in their health and other areas of life. As a practitioner trained in several health disciplines, professional coaching has been an ideal way for Erica to help her client’s view their lives as a whole and achieve balanced and sustainable lifestyle change. She has been providing life coaching services since completing formal training as a life coach in 2001. Coaching is an opportunity to create and refine the vision you have for your life, and to receive hands on assistance in taking the steps to make it happen. Erica provides general life coaching and has a specialty practice in health and mindful eating coaching.
Mindful Eating and Health Focused Coaching
As a partnership, coaching is focused on developing life practices or skills that will allow people to sustain health, find their path, and live the life they want to live. Mindful Eating coaching is an approach which helps us reconnect with the body’s natural hunger and satiety signals. Listening to the body and learning to eat in balance with these physiological cues moves us away from prescriptive diets and toward a trusting peaceful relationship with body, mind and food. Eating more mindfully can be a springboard for living in more balance in other areas of one’s life and leads to more sustainable change than what is found in diet based approaches.
Most holistic and complementary healing approaches involve lifestyle change and the development of new life practices. This kind of change takes time and can be hard to sustain without longer-term attention. In both general and health focused coaching, a coach can help you remove barriers to change and see possibilities for transformation in places you may have trouble seeing on your own. Health focused life coaching provides an additional level of support if you find yourself meeting barriers in bringing about the new practices and lifestyle change you want to experience. Although coaching is highly individualized, mindfulness practices are often at the center of our coaching approach. Mindfulness encompasses a broad variety of practices that help you access your inner wisdom and awareness so that the food and lifestyle practices you desire can be integrated in your life in a balanced, individualized and sustainable way.
