What is naturopathic medicine?
Naturopathic medicine offers a unique blend of old-world healing traditions with modern-day science to give one of the most comprehensive and truly holistic health care systems available. With guiding principles including ‘Treat the Whole Person’ and ‘Find the Cause’, this system of medicine honors the individual and recognizes that two people with the same condition may indeed require different aspects of care. Frequently, the foundations of naturopathic treatment are centered around diet and lifestyle modification. However, nutritional supplementation, herbal medicine, and homeopathy serve to enhance the body’s own ability to heal from dis-ease. Creating the opportunity to care for your body physically, mentally, and spiritually is the best natural preventative medicine and thoughtful investment in the quality of your future wellness.

What is a constitutional hydrotherapy treatment?
Constitutional hydrotherapy is a safe and reliable technique used to stimulate the body’s natural ability to heal itself. At one time in our country, this method was used in hospitals as standard medical treatment for many illnesses. Today, it is utilized by thousands of naturopathic doctors to treat a variety of acute and chronic complaints including infection, inflammation, and injury.
During the 30-minute treatment, the patient lies comfortably while hot towels are applied to the upper chest and abdomen, and is covered with a sheet and blanket. Once the skin is warmed, a single cold towel is exchanged for the heated one. The change in temperature causes an increase in blood flow to the skin and internal organs, improving circulation and lymphatic drainage. For increased effectiveness, mild electrical stimulation is applied to the mid-back muscles, improving the body’s ability to detoxify. A treatment for any disorder involving immune function, research has shown the beneficial effects of constitutional hydrotherapy on the immune system last for 24 hours.
Many of Dr. Anderson’s patients choose to take a constitutional hydrotherapy treatment at the earliest sign of a cold or flu or following a particularly stressful life experience to increase energy, improve digestion and enhance sleep quality.
For the greatest results, constitutional hydrotherapy should be repeated 3-4 times weekly, but the frequency and duration of treatments will depend on each individual’s condition and vitality.
What type of training does a naturopathic doctor receive?
Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are family practice-oriented primary health care providers. Training involves a four-year, graduate level, accredited naturopathic medical school education consisting of basic science, specialized coursework, natural therapeutics, and clinical rotations. Graduates must pass a national board exam to become licensed to practice naturopathic medicine.
How can I support licensure of naturopathic physicians in Colorado?
**Currently, 15 States legally recognize NDs. The state of Colorado does not regulate naturopathic medicine or legally recognize the title 'ND', which means that anyone may use the term ‘naturopathic doctor’. Dr. Anderson attended Bastyr University and she carries a current and valid license to practice as a naturopathic doctor in the state of Washington. Since Colorado does not license NDs at this time, Dr. Anderson cannot legally diagnose, treat disease or prescribe pharmaceuticals in the state of Colorado.
